Agreed, Gabbard is more worth a try than some blob creature. She'll need close monitoring, though, because it's really not clear what makes her tick or what her ideals are. She has a whiff of doomsday cult about her.
I think there's a parallel, political analysis to be done about why Trump is appointing Gabbard and Kennedy to high-level posts. He could have demolished the two-party duopoly after his first election, because he'd taken on and beaten both the Dem and Repub establishments. Instead, he handed his cabinet (and soon the Supreme Court) to the worst right-wing elements of all stripes—neocons, oligarchs, Christian fundamentalists. It looked like he wanted to ensure re-election by consolidating the support of these various hard-right tendencies. It didn't quite work, though it might have without COVID. But now, he doesn't need re-election: were he to try, against the Constitution, he'd still be 82 on Inauguration Day 2029 and in his final days.
So, is he now trying belatedly to bust up the duopoly, by bringing in two leading independents or Dem apostates? Is he merely rewarding them for defecting to him? (He's better known for stiffing his contractors than for rewarding them.) Surely he doesn't care in the policy sense about anti-vaxx or healthy food, though he's somewhat aligned to Gabbard's mistrust of the security state. I don't know what this means, but it means something, and no one's analyzing that.
Gabbard is a mixed bag for certain, but what alternatives are there? We've had plenty of "unmixed" bags in that DNI position--purebred rabid imperial bureaucrats. And they did monstrous things all across the globe. All signs indicate that Gabbard is the likely "lesser evil." Interesting that the lesser evil calculus isn't being applied here by the people who pushed it on us so hard for the entire election cycle.
I'm a fan of Tulsi's but am more than a little shocked that we still do not know her very well. She grew up in a cult, left the cult but whose personal circle is filled with former cult members about whom we know very little.
I would like to know a lot more about Gabbard. She's ex-cult which in my book means she's a very strong person but someone we need to know more about. She's either perfect for the job or maybe the worst pick imaginable.
