If this remains an isolated event, it's likely to die down. But if there's another one...
On a narrower topic, I've been trying to make sense of Mangione's capture. If he hadn't been carrying the murder weapon, the manifesto, and the fake IDs (including that used at the Upper West Side hostel), all they would have had on him was a possible resemblance to some of the surveillance photos, and maybe an inability to demonstrate that he was not in NYC during the critical period. They couldn't have convicted him; they might not have charged him; the Altoona police might not even have arrested him. So he was indifferent to getting caught, which is consistent with his probable motive. As to why he took a bus trip instead of turning himself in, I can conceive that he was resigned to being caught but fatalistically decided to let the chips fall where they may.
If his yelled remarks to onlookers while in custody have been transcribed correctly, he didn't protest that the gun and fake IDs were planted on him; he protested that the $10k cash was planted. Although he's clearly not of completely sound mind and we can't trust everything he says, I wonder if this protest is true. What could be the motive for planting cash on him? To suggest a profit motive for his act, make him seem like a paid hit man, in order to negate his message. We'll see if he reiterates his planted-cash claim, while he's still with us.
There are a lot of questions about the arrest, Blackthorn. Also about why he kept damning evidence on him, assuming he's the shooter. And I'm not sure we'll get the facts, since The News Is Not The News™.
There are some "thoughts and prayers" memes on Twitter, etc. I don't have the time to chase them down, but feel free to post them (anyone) if you find them. Some are pretty striking.
I have long said that much of Trump's support is entirely rational. When you recognize that the game is rigged, and not in your favor, the only thing you can do is to vote in the guy who will Burn It All Down, cause as much chaos as possible.
That said, nobody in the political class, not Sanders, not Trump, nobody knows or wants to know just how seething mad with white hot incandescent rage the public is.
For that matter, last week I spoke with a bunch of yuppie attorneys who expressed great shock that such a senseless thing could happen to such a great person as CEO Thompon! And when I tried to explain how pissed off the public is Thompson and those like him, they looked at me like I had asked who person who just farted to please identiy himself and changed the subject. Many of these were liberals and democrats, card-carrying, dues-paying members in good standing of the PMC. At least one had run for statewide office as a democrat.
great piece. just this morning i was reminiscing about heady days before Obama took office with both the House and Senate in Dem hands, and yet no one lifted a finger to codify Roe despite that being a firm campaign promise and EXPECTATION. Women departed the party this year precisely b/c we’re tired of being played for chumps.
and all that is aside from the UHC Class War situation. I think you’re spot on about the security state putting the thrumbscrews to publishers, which is precisely why i have to take everything being leaked with a big grain of salt until we hear from Mangione’s atty. the fact is that i don’t know what the facts are because i haven’t seen them yet.
in this tightly controlled media space i can easily see how someone could be falsely accused and tried on social media before ever getting a say. so i guess i’m a wet blanket there, but i’m ALL IN on the class war. it’s about damn time.
Is there any doubt that Thompson caused many early deaths, at least by proxy?
So, a serial killer.
NY law justifies killing to protect others.
Hmmmm.
Thompson was a fat cat profiting off pain and suffering.
Allegedly killed by a man whose name means "glutton."
If the foo shits...

He shoulda yelled, "I'm a patsy."

Has anyone else noticed the lack of "Thoughts and prayers" or demands for gun safety in the public discussion of this shooting?

So it's not like they want to know either.

Killing Brian wasn't murder. IT WAS SELF DEFENSE.
