At least part of the fleet (US) patrolling south china sea has been moved towards the mideast. China might support Iran by flexing muscle in their own region forcing us to choose between the two regions. Don't know of course, but think it was stupid to redeploy part of the pacific fleet to the west.

Overall I believe you are right and Us committed before Israel bombed Iran.

Now will Pakistan aid Iran with nukes? Probably not unless Isrsel deploys them first. There is the most dangerous element in the game if we are heading to a nuclear confrontation. I'm pretty sure no one else wants to really go there, though there might be a few Buck Turgidson running amok elsewhere, but Israel will be the only one willing to actively engage with nukes first.

I don't much trust N. & Co., but he might ask Trump first...if Trump or US says no, I still wouldn't put it past Israel if they begin to suffer too many home casualties.

Really instead of aiding Israel, if we want to avoid a larger conflict, US must inform Israel to desist or we leave them to their own resources.

That won't happen.

Funny not many are talking about this conflict, except God's Spies... but while we're looking at protesting Trump, those around him are well aware that a big international war then gives him full reigns for the Insurrection Act, Alien Enemies Act, total suspension of due process, and complete martialization of the law' perhaps even closing down the courts altogether for a spate.

I generally consider myself a cynical optimist but I'm not finding too much optimism right now...but the future... those that survive, surely will reevaluate society completely?

I don't know if that is optimistic or not...

You're right about that, Ken. A lot will be re-evaluated, including party allegiances.

I ended the comment as a question rather than an imperative...and so it is a hope...and remains a hope...and has sometimes seemed to flourish in this old fart's lifetime; and then retract...and the hope begins to diminish.

Too much hope in a candidate or party sometimes leads to slavish naivety towards one's own heroes and minus recognition that all people and all ideologies are imperfect; those imperfections become the battering rams that tear down the hopes and can lead to the despairs .

Politics, especially politics of supposed democracies, must find a manner of maintaining greater hope than despair and that has never been consistently achieved in the americanized experience of how people in the country related to their government and vice-versa...

Minus the hope on the offering plate that the government sends to its citizens, the plate shatters to the ground and the collection lies on the floor gathering in the dusts of increasing despair.

The label placed upon the offerings of the government to its people, be it democracy or some other, is not a guarantor of hope, and nothing can shatter hope more rapidly than the label itself is such a guarantor.

I am late for leaving a comment, but "Middle East Sources" exacerbated my tardiness. Thomas, thank you for that compilation!

If what follows turns out to be utter nonsense the actuarial tables predict I will not have to live with the embarrassment long should that not kill me.

Iran appears to be armed for modern warfare with drones and missiles. it has dispensed with noble knights seated in combat aircraft to deliver destruction to the enemy. In addition to placing hard to replace humans in harms way, the standoff weapons deployed have smaller explosive warheads than ground based missiles. Direct bombing raids will be highly risky maneuvers. Iran employs mobile launchers like the Houthis. Israel uses US planes based on pristine runways. Which system will prove more robust?

The US Navy had to cease employing gunboat diplomacy with the Houthis. Despite having far more advanced infrastructure that our warmongering ghools salivate at targeting, Iran too, will prevail. Israel will demonstrate conclusively that being a US proxy is a sucker's game.

Thank you very much for your trenchant analysis. This is the most dangerous moment for all life on Earth since the days prior to the asteroid hitting 55 million years ago. Thank you again, Thomas, for making the end at least as understandable as it could have been.
