What's the larger context for the sociopathic Davos Man's repellent statement?

"If you give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest of men, I will find something in them which will hang him." --Cardinal Richelieu, allegedly.
Privacy matters even (and especially when) "if you're not doing anything wrong you have nothing to hide", that's a bunch of crap (but most people don't know that).
My question below was serious: what is this new world, and why must we give up privacy? Is the rest of the interview available somewhere?
