Re: warming. Hard to remember now that the original starting point for measurement was the universally acknowledged beginning of the industrial revolution. The year 1750. All manner of ‘averages’ have been used recently, including the one cited here. I’ve never seen any explanations of why this has taken place. The only one I can imagine is that it would be seen as even more ‘alarmist’ if the real increase in global average temperature becomes known by the public.
