Security camera image showing Rumeysa Ozturk, a 30-year-old doctoral student at Tufts University, detained by Department of Homeland Security agents on a street in Sommerville, Mass., on March 25. Note the masks. Full story here. (AP)

A short set of shocking links, at least shocking to me. There are plenty of stories like these, and the phrase “brownshirts” comes up. Abducted by men wearing masks who won’t say who they are? The echoes are dark.

Don’t miss the tale of Feds killing a user’s home Wifi prior to an interview, and a non-musical treat.

A sample of what not-much research turns up these days.

• Immigration agents smash car window to arrest Guatamalan (New Bedford Light via YouTube)

Watch to the end.

In what looks like a case of mistaken identity (see this NBC News report), Federal immigration agents smashed a car window to arrest a man named “Antonio,” who was not the man in the car. ICE ignored even the mayor’s request for information.

• Feds raid home of U of M pro-Palestine activists (Twitter)

Not sure if they knocked first or just started bashing the door. News stories around this event are not favorable to the agents. They claimed they were serving search warrants (contrary to claim of the video voice-over), and also that no arrests were made. Also, the Michigan attorney general’s office (she is a Democrat) says that the underlying crime was “vandalism.” An armed response to vandalism; interesting.

Side fact 1: I found this on Twitter (link above) and chased down the TikTok account (@metrodetroitnews) that’s the apparent source. A search of that account, however, shows no evidence of the video. Also, a search of the paper’s website shows no evidence of the story. Did someone there get a word of advice or a takedown suggestion?

Side fact 2: Anyone else see echoes of this?

• ICE/ATF agents arrests girl in Winnie the Pooh shirt (YouTube)

You don’t need the audio on this — it’s just a musical overlay. But the video, jeez. Why weren’t her parents allowed to accompany her? And why the handcuffs and the three-person overkill presence?
