Above is the poster from one of my favorite under-the-radar cult films, Carnival of Souls. The poster doesn’t do justice to the film, but it’s a nice splash of color to kick off this post. It also connects, obliquely, to one of the links below. Enjoy this Friday’s collection.

Links

Six links and a musical treat, something I think you’ll love.

• The 2nd GOP Debate (Breaking Points)

Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti are joined by Ryan Grim and Emily Jashinsky to analyze whatever that thing was that aired earlier this week. I heard some, avoided some, and listened to the analysis above.

The whole thing added up, for me, to a single thought: This is a carnival of ghouls. Punishing, blood-thirsty freaks. Listen to them trash the auto strike. (“They want to work French hours,” is a fine example.) Not one of these people should be allowed near public office.

If the argument in favor of these folks is, they’re only pretending — they’re only selling themselves to the worst of their voters — my answer is, that disqualifies them twice for knowing better.

• Nobody Will Tell You the Ugly Reason Apple Acquired a Classical Music Label (Ted Goia at The Honest Broker)

Apple just made a surprising acquisition. It bought out BIS Records, a 50-year-old classical music label in Akersbaga, Sweden.

But nobody will tell you the real reason.

That’s probably not surprising, because it’s an ugly reason. But you really deserve to know it—because it gives a glimpse into the dark future of streaming.

Read the link for the hidden dirty secret. It’s quite the clever scam.
