Why have elected Dems seemed less worried than you?
Before we start, a note. Site growth has been phenomenal this year, and for that I’m grateful. I believe in what we’re doing, offering (I hope) clear-eyed analysis undriven by orthodoxy. So an ask: If you like what you read here, and you’re not already a subscriber, please do subscribe.
Paid subscriptions put us high on promotions lists, so if you can afford it (and only then), please do help in that way. It gets the word out faster. (See here for rewards for recommendations.)
But most of our work is free and will stay that way. If you believe in what we’re doing, please help in any way you can. Thanks!
And speaking of recommendations, those of you who know how much I enjoy music might find this elegant site worth visiting. The emphasis is on late Romantics. The collection of performances may interest you.

• Naomi Klein: Why Top Dems are not afraid of Trump (Twitter)
This is a Klein two-fer: Naomi Klein quotes Ezra Klein to make her point.
Note: I’m not pointing this out to denigrate anyone’s fears — I have fears myself — but to help answer a question. Why do Democrats by their actions not seem to fear Trump as fervently as many voters do?
For example, consider how much power and money both parties handed President Trump via swollen Pentagon funding and FISA enhancements. If he’s really an existential threat to democracy itself, what’s up with that? Why empower a tyrant?
This is a disconnect, and thus these comments. First, Ezra Klein says this in a recent podcast:
Naomi Klein added, commenting on the above:
File under “Making sense of the senseless.”
• Obama’s right to kill (David Sirota)
More on giving Trump power, this time unknowingly.
I keep saying we’ve already built the dictatorship.
File under “Adding to presidential power, one president at a time.”
