Praise for the Pier
President Biden’s plan to build a pier to Gaza has garnered much praise. For example:
The U.S. military anticipates that a floating pier, to be built off Gaza’s coastline in coming weeks, will enable delivery of 2 million meals daily to Palestinians facing starvation, the Pentagon said Friday, describing its plan to address the worsening humanitarian crisis there without deploying American personnel directly into the war zone.
And:
Facing warnings that the war-ravaged Gaza Strip is on the precipice of widespread famine, the United States on Thursday announced plans for a large-scale, amphibious military operation in the Mediterranean Sea that would ferry food and other aid to desperate civilians in the enclave.
Nevertheless (same link):
American officials said that they had “worked closely” with Israelis as they developed the seaport initiative[.]
What does this mean?
